Cancer - a disease of the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. Normally cell proliferation and programmed cell death (apoptosis) of body cells is a strictly controlled processes. However, a normal may cell turn into a cancerous cell due to one or more mutations in its DNA. And instead of inducing apoptosis - the cells outgrow normal cells and continue to grow and divide to form new abnormal cells. The cancer cells might spread into systemic ciculation (blood stream) or physically grow into other parts of the body where they begin to grow as tumors. This process is called metastasis.
