In general, viral vectors are more potent due to high transduction efficiency, but suffer from immunogenicity and high risks in clinical applications.

Non-viral vectors and invivo transfection reagents offer appealing alternatives to viruses for nucleic acid delivery in animals. These reagents showed promising results for a number of animal disease models, including anticancer RNAi in a xenograft murine models.
