Delivery of siRNAs using nanoparticles or via liposome encapsulation can significantly increase stability of oligonucleotides in vivo. Naparticles and cationic carriers are especially effective due to their ability to penetrate cells. PEGylated siRNA/cationic liposome (siRNA/PEG-LIC) complexes induce greater silencing of genes and show beneficial pharmacokinetic properties. While lipid encapsulation in the form of micelles and liposomes are commonly used - they often have increased cytotoxicity.
